The Oceans Alive team collectively has over 60 years of experience in community-based management of marine resources in East Africa. We share our knowledge with coastal fishing communities to:
safeguard biodiversity
ensure the sustainability of marine ecosystems
protect fisheries and coral reefs
secure and improve livelihoods
protect the rights of small scale fishermen and their families
We create, connect, catalyse and share Co managed initiatives by working with communities, relevant stakeholders and partners with our 4 pillar approach central to everything we do. These are Governance, Environmental, Economic and Social.
We have seen the value and deep impact of peer-to-peer exchange. This is one of the approaches we use to empower and strengthen coastal communities to:
overcome adverse effects of climate change
restore the environment
improve depleted fish stocks
minimize the impact of development projects
create resilience for other unforeseen occurrences such as COVID 19
understand and protect their rights
Effectively manage a sustainable fishery
